When you decide to put your time and money into an engine you should do everything possible to protect that investment. I have a cherokee six 300 service manual and it says i should pull and clean both the oil sump and the oil pressure screens during every oil change. Change the oil when the monitor says so. Oil changes on new car driven with synthetic engine oil can be changed at minimum at 10 000 km and up to 15 000.

I change the oil because the smaller particles that do not get caught in the oem filter are still going round and round in our new motors, sanding/abrading metal parts, and getting rid of the oil at 500 miles, removes the very small metal, caused during initial break in process. Not sure whether you have ever had one of those kohler engines with pressure lubrication, but when you change the break in oil, they want you to also change the filter on the first oil change.
